Coming up with lead magnet ideas is not always easy.
We all know that the most common and powerful way to grow our email lists is through lead magnets. Every time you sign up to participate in a bundle, a giveaway, or another online event, you are taking one of your products and turning it into a lead magnet for the customers of that event.
But you should also have lead magnets – yes, more than one – on your blog or website in order to attract potential customers that might not be coming from other events. These should be free or low-cost items that attract your potential customer into your buyers’ journey or email marketing campaign.
Here are five lead magnet ideas for growing your list…
Idea #1 – How-To Guides or eBooks
Short guides or how-to eBooks that include relevant information and actionable content are attractive options to many readers. Most people use the internet to ask questions to solve a common problem and gain more knowledge about their favorite things, which is why eBooks and how-to guides work well to showcase your expertise. Understanding your audience and their struggles are key to creating an effective eBook or guide that piques their interest.
Idea #2 – Email Courses or Workbooks
Email courses and workbooks are a more direct approach to solving your customers’ problems than just handing them an ebook and expecting them to figure it out. Instead of downloading all the material at once, your readers will receive their course through weekly and timed emails. Keeping your audience engaged is the goal here, and regular emails will also help you build the relationship and enhance the know, like and trust process between you and your new subscribers.
Tip: If you don’t want to write your how-to guides or workbooks from scratch, using private label rights* (PLR) content as a starting point is a great way to get ideas and save time.
Idea #3 – Templates and Checklists
Of course, as a low content publisher, this is one of my favorite lead magnet ideas. Easy, downloadable, and printable material that is helpful to your subscribers is the goal here. And I don’t know about you, but I always have templates and things floating around the half-done file that could easily be turned into a lead magnet for my site. These also make a great funnel starter, but more on that later.

Idea #4 – Free Webinars and Trial Offers
If your primary product is training or services, sometimes inviting your audience to a webinar is a great incentive to get them on your list. If you have a membership, offering a free trial also works well so that they can see what they’re getting before they make the decision to subscribe to a monthly or other continuity offer.
Idea #5 – Contests, Giveaways, and Coupons
Incentivizing your list with things like contests, giveaways, and special coupons is another excellent way to entice people to subscribe to your list.
Does this give you any ideas for changing or adding new lead magnets to your site? I know it does for me… just the act of writing all this out has my mind spinning with lead magnet ideas for how to add more value for subscribers to my list. I hope it does for you too!
