Stop Talking and Start  Taking Action To Achieve Your Goals

If you stop and think about it, you probably have a laundry list of thing you’ve always meant to do. You might even have a list of goals you planned to complete, but somehow never quite got around to. I know I can talk a good game, but if I’m honest with myself I probably talk about taking action a lot more than I actually do the things I plan on. But I’ve promised myself that at least for the rest of this year I will do a lot less talking about what I’m going to do, and a lot more of just buckling down to get things done.

Taking action on your goals

Here are 5 ways to start taking action on achieving your goals:

Simplify your goals

You may have a dozen goals on your list, but you can’t realistically work on all of them at the same time. If you focus only on one to three goals at any one time you will have a much better chance at success. So prioritize your list and pick the three most important ones and start taking action on those first.

Focus, focus, focus

Once you have your goals decided on, stay focused on them and don’t let anything get in the way of achieving them. Write them down on a piece of paper and put it where you’ll see it every single day.

Break your goals into small actionable steps

As you complete each smaller step, you’ll feel your momentum building as you get closer to completing the final step to realize your goal.

Here’s an example. One of my goals is to create passive income funnels that will build my income on autopilot. Having passive income to pay my bills will allow me to free up some time to do start taking action on things that are important to me. But creating enough passive income to fund a lifestyle is a huge project and if I only focused on the end goal, then I’d never get started. (Which, in all honesty is pretty much what happened to me so far this year.)

So instead of trying to build 50 small funnels all at once, I focus on building out one at a time and break each one down into steps. I start with the first step, which is usually a blog post, and then move on to the second, and before you know it one funnel is completely built. Then, and only then, can I move on to the next.

For me it’s like putting the pieces of a puzzle together because in choosing one to start with I see more clearly how each step fits into the whole picture. And in doing so, I can sit down and take one action today instead of talking about how I’m going to build this huge project and how it’s going to be so amazing! I mean, it is going to be amazing when it’s done, but that’s really not the point right now. The point is that doing small actions every day get me closer to achieving success.

Be flexible

One thing I like about having more than one goal to work on at a time is that I get bored easily. So having three projects to flip between works for me. But it might not work for you, and you will need to allow yourself the flexibility to figure out what does work for you. The important thing to remember is however many goals you choose to work on at once time, you are taking action every day to move them closer to completion.

Watch your self-talk

This is a huge one for me. It’s easy to get caught up in a self-talk cycle of “I always wanted to do that” or “I had a good intention to do this,” and then never actually get around to doing it. Instead of talking about what you wanted or what you intended, change your self-talk to reflect on the actions you’ve taken toward achieving your goals.

If you keep a journal of your progress, your self-talk will change as well because you’ll have a concrete record of the things you’ve accomplished that you can read aloud to yourself when you need a reminder of just how far you’ve come.

It’s an amazing feeling when you finally stop talking about what you’re going to do and start taking action. You have everything within you that you need to create the success and the lifestyle you desire. Take action today, do what you intend to do, and make success a reality.
