Happy Tuesday!
It’s another beautiful day here in Central Ontario. I didn’t get a lot done yesterday, between doctor’s appointments (just a regular checkup, nothing serious), catching up with Shaun after his weekend away – he even bought me dinner – and a rather lengthy zoom call my day pretty much disappeared! And then I couldn’t sleep, so ended up watching Christmas movies until about 3 a.m. I feel like there’s going to be a nap in my future this afternoon.
However, before that, I have goodies to share and a couple more products to get ready for our Digital Divas Advent Calendar.
Today’s read is all about building relationships with your list. I like to think I’m kinda good at that… I feel like many of you have become good friends over the years, and I’m so happy you’re here and a part of my day every day.
Today’s Read: Three Ways You Can Build a Relationship with Your List Members
Building a relationship with your email list members is a crucial part of success in your list building and email marketing efforts. Making a sale should never be a one-off event. You want to be building a relationship with the people who have given you’re their email address or paid you for a product or service.
As a friend of mine likes to say, “Brand loyalty isn’t just for Coke and Pepsi.”
Here’s the thing I think we tend to forget sometimes, especially if we build our list from events like bundle sales and giveaways, that when someone gives you their email address it is an invitation to connect. Not to spam – but to build a meaningful relationship.
You set the expectations by what you promise to provide – but at the bare minimum your customers are expecting a two-way conversation about your business, info you thing has value for them, and products and service you know can help them. And it helps when you think of your list as a community of members instead of just a list of faceless email addresses.
While email isn’t as intimate as a phone call or face-to-face meeting, it is as close as you can come. Email is all about relationships and building a type of friendship that ensures people want to buy from you rather than from a stranger. The more personal you appear, the closer your audience leans in to “hear” what you have to say.
Building a relationship with your customers and subscribers isn’t hard. It’s all about doing what you would normally do, on a broader scale. Being open, friendly, honest, and human is all you need.
Here are three ways you can build that relationship through your emails:
Share something about your day
Sending a daily email is one way to share a little piece of yourself with your community. The more people feel they can relate to you, the closer they connect with your business.
Show you care
If something happens in the world or in the arena you represent, show you care by sending an email with your thoughts on the matter. If something significant is happening in the world, connect with your community and let them know you are there for them.
Melody Wigdahl is a master at this. Her Kitchen Sink Mastermind was born from the pandemic and her knowing that her community members needed a place to connect and talk.
Be authentic
No matter what you share, do it the way you do all things. Be sure that how you engage your community online is how they would find you if you met face-to-face. If you’re funny, use humor. If you are a sports nut, share your love of all things sports. Golf anyone?
People buy from those they feel they know, like, and trust. Let them know you are human, and they will be more likely to trust you and your recommendations.
It’s pretty much a given that you can’t be literal friends with everyone on your email marketing list, but you can be friendly and accessible to those who make the effort to connect. Just as in an in-person relationship, be yourself, share something of yourself with your community, and you will be on your way to building a lasting relationship with the people on your email list.
And now, here are today’s deals…
