New Deals, Old Deals, Holiday Sales and Content Marketing Tips

It was Canada Day here yesterday, and I did something I rarely do. I took a whole day off and refused to feel guilty for it. Shaun and I went golfing in the morning and it was such a gorgeous morning, not too hot, not too windy, and I actually played pretty decently after I got warmed up. Knowing I’m not as bad as I thought I was has me a little more excited for my lessons now.

Since I didn’t do a newsletter yesterday I have a ton of stuff to share with you this morning.

And, I’ve decided that July is a good month to focus on content marketing, so here’s today’s daily read…

Today’s Read: 5 Tips for Defining Your Content Marketing Goals

I don’t know about you, but I know as a creative solopreneur, I spend a lot more time creating stuff than I do marketing it. So I’ve decided to declare this month Content Marketing Month here at Ritchie Media, and I’ll be sharing tips for actually marketing your content and getting eyeballs on your offers.

In today’s read we’re looking at getting started with a content marketing plan by defining some goals to keep in mind as you craft your plan.

Tip #1 – Have a purpose for your content

Some potential purposes for any content you create include earning more links to your site, ranking higher in the search engine results, educating your audience, driving social engagement, building your list, or something else.

Tip #2 – Decide where your content will be posted

There are several places your content can, and should, live online. The first and most important is your blog because you want your main content on a platform you have control over. After that, other places like social media platforms, video sites, third party shops (for products) and your email list are good places to consider.

Tip #3 – Decide on formats for your content

Different platforms require different content. Once you make the decisions on where your content will be posted, then you’ll be able to decide what formats to create.

Tip #4 – Decide on how you’ll promote your content

This is definitely where I come up short. How you promote will depend on the three tips above as well as who your target market is and where they hang out online.

Tip #5 – Transfer Your Goals to a Real Schedule

If you don’t schedule the work that you need to do in order to reach the goals you’ve set, then the goals aren’t really that clear. Put the information into a calendar or planner, and be sure your schedule is realistic enough to give you time to complete everything.

Bonus Tip – Create measurable goals

Content marketing is lots of planning, testing, and a little bit of magic. But you need to know what’s working for you so you can do more of that. Make your goals measurable and create a system that allows you to keep track of efforts and results.

Setting relevant goals for content marketing will ensure that you aren’t just creating content for the sake of creating content. That doesn’t work and will just frustrate you. Every single piece of content that you create must have a purpose, and you should define that purpose prior to even starting to develop it.
